Write Your Own Adventure
Have you ever heard of Choose Your Own Adventure books from back in the 1980's? They were written in such a way that the reader could interact with the story and make choices along the way. As the reader navigated the book, they could decide to go left or right, to open the door or walk away. Each choice would lead the reader down a different path, a different destiny. Sometimes the choices would lead to a happy ending. Other times, choices would get the reader stuck between a rock and a hard place.
Kids of the 1980's loved these books and would read them multiple times, each time, making a different choice and essentially rewriting their fictional destiny. For those who don't remember these books, that's not a problem because they're still around!
This summer school class is designed to be a fun and exciting way to learn about narrative writing (fictional short story writing). As students explore these books, they will also work towards writing their own Choose Your Own Adventure stories. By the end of the course, students will present their stories online with art and animation, as well as other surprises that will give the reader an interactive experience like never before! Hopefully readers make the right choices and survive their way through the stories to a happy outcome!
